Pre-Prosthetic Surgery

Pre-prosthetic surgery is performed to prepare your mouth for the placement of a prosthesis / denture.

In order to ensure the maximum level of comfort some patients may require minor oral surgical procedures prior to receiving a partial or complete denture. A denture sits on soft tissue immediately covering a bony ridge, so it is very important that the bone is the proper shape and size. Extracted teeth can sometimes leave the underlying bone uneven. For the best fit of a denture, the bone might need to be smoothed or reshaped. Occasionally, excess bone would need to be removed prior to denture insertion.

The overlying gum tissue is also shaped at that time to allow for faster healing and better support for your denture.
