Immediate Dentures

Immediate Dentures are dentures that are created by your general dentist prior to the removal of teeth so that they can be ready for you to wear immediately after the removal of teeth. If you and your dentist have decided on a treatment plan including immediate dentures, it is important that these dentures arrive in our office at or before your appointment time. Often, the best way to achieve this is to bring them yourself on the day of your appointment.

In general, it is not recommended that patients wear their dentures to sleep.

However, the one exception to this rule is the first night after the placement of immediate dentures. Wearing them overnight will not only assist your dentist in making necessary adjustments to the dentures during your visit there, but will also help to prevent excessive swelling under the dentures. At times, removing immediate dentures for even ten minutes can result in enough swelling to prevent you from being able to put them back in!

If immediate dentures are inserted, sore spots will likely develop during the first few days. In most cases, your dentist will see you within 24-48 hours after surgery and make the necessary adjustments to relieve those sore spots. Failure to do so may result in severe denture sores, which may prolong the healing process.

After you have seen your dentist for denture adjustment, take out denture and rinse three to four times a day during the healing phase. You should also clean the denture at least once daily. And, after that first night, always remove them to sleep!
